First shipping of core samples for geomicrobiological research (RMS) to requester

Owing to increasing significance of study of subseafloor life, KCC has begun curation of deep frozen core samples for geomicrobiological research. These core samples are called " Routine Microbiological Sample (RMS)" in IODP.

For the first time, a sample request for the RMS being curated at KCC was submitted by researchers. As a result of the request evaluation by the KCC curator, the request was approved, and aliquots of the RMS were sent to the researchers.

In order to spread information about RMS to science community, KCC will continue its activities such as updating RMS web site (http://www.kochi-core.jp/rms/) and exhibiting RMS posters and panels at academic meetings.
